CMdT

I am originally from Pensacola, Florida. I have earned academic degrees from the University of Florida (B.S., M.A., and Ph.D. in Communicative Sciences and Disorders). I have taught and conducted research at the University of Washington.

Currently I live outside Chicago, IL and am an Associate Professor at Midwestern University in the Speech-Language Pathology Program. I teach courses in the aphasia, research methods, and evidence-based practice. I regularly lecture on adult neurogenic language and motor speech disorders in the colleges of Dentistry, Medicine, and Health Sciences.

I conduct research on word-finding in aphasia. Specifically, I am interested in identifying characteristics of nouns and verbs which facilitate word recall in persons with aphasia and applying these findings to treatment protocols. I am also interested in developing stimuli for word-finding treatments that are effective in assessment and treatment and are representative of the diverse lives of people with aphasia.

I hold an SLP state license in Illinois, as well as a Certificate of Clinical Competence from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association.

In my free time I enjoy spending time with family including my two boys, gardening and indoor plant care, home decorating, movies, travel, and going to live music, dance and theatre.
